Palm oil factory explosion claims another life

SETIU: Another victim of the explosion at the Felda Chalok palm oil factory here has died at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) seven hours after being admitted.

The victim, identified only as Jameel, 30, from India, died at 11.30pm on Monday. He suffered 90 per cent burns on his body.

District police chief Deputy Superintendent Shaik Othman Abdul Hamid said Jameel was admitted to HSNZ at 4.30pm on Monday. A third victim, Tee Han Long, 30, from Klang in Selangor, who suffered 30 per cent burns was sent to the same hospital half-an-hour later. Othman said Tee’s condition was stable.

He said both victims, Robiul from Bangladesh and Jameel, who died in the incident had, passports and work permits.

He also said police had recorded a statement from a 38-year-old factory worker who witnessed the incident to assist in investigations.

“We are still investigating but we have ruled out foul play.”

On Monday, Robiul was killed and his two colleagues seriously injured after a bio-gas tank of the refinery exploded at 11.30am.

The three were employees of Kuala Lumpur-based engineering company, Green and Smart Sdn Bhd.

They had been sent to the Felda Palm Industries Sdn Bhd refinery in Chalok, near here, to conduct maintenance work.

Robiul was killed instantly after he landed on a perimeter fence near the tank while Tee and Jameel were badly injured.
