LONDON (Thomson Financial) – Anglo-Eastern Plantations Plc. said it expects its first-half pretax profit to be ‘significantly higher’ compared with last year on the back of higher oil production and a favourable crude palm oil price.

It said crops of oil palm fresh fruit bunches in the first-half to June 30 amounted to 265,000 tonnes, an increase of some 16 percent, reflecting the recovery from the drought conditions and increasing maturity of the Bengkulu estates.

It said volumes of bought-in fruit have also increased considerably over 2007.

Overall these two factors led to a 38 percent increase in crude palm oil output of 95,000 tonnes during the first six months compared to the 69,000 tonnes produced in 2007, it added.

Progress continues on the new projects in Kalimantan, Bengkulu and Bangka. Land clearing is proceeding with a target of 2,000 hectares planted by the year-end, the palm oil producer added.
